ACNE STUDIOS EYEWEAR

As the models walked through the Centre Pompidou in March at the Acne Studios Fall 2015 show, the obvious eye-catching accessory was the baroque nose ring, studded and bejeweled and weighing heavily on their faces. But designer Jonny Johansson smartly offered a similarly engaging—if more accessible—option as well with his oversized sunglasses, a futuristic, seemingly seamless shield that served up both protection and style. Those glasses—fittingly named Mask—are now available as part of the Swedish brand’s début eyewear collection, along with a broad range of other attractive shapes and sizes for both men and women.

Eyewear is nothing new to Acne Studios, but Johansson explains that he felt it was time to codify and streamline the label’s offerings, which combine the same love of color and quirky sensibility that run through the ready-to-wear. “For this first collection, I’ve drawn on my role models in music as inspiration and reference,” Johansson says. “It’s up to the customer to guess who.”

Those role models might include someone like Kanye West, who can easily be imagined in the glossy Mask, as well as some older references, as evinced by the classic aviator shape of the Spitfire, or the cheeky Sixties pop of the rounded Mustang. Each design comes in several color options, from the bright sky blue Sigmund to the soft blush Frame, as is only fitting for a brand that is so many different things to so many different people.

Acne Studios Eyewear is now available at Acne Studios stores worldwide and at AcneStudios.com.
