GLAMSQUAD'S AT-HOME SALON

For the busy urban dweller, we’ve come to expect that almost any service you could think of—a last-minute ride to the airport or midnight delivery of this week’s groceries—can be called to your door with a few well-placed taps on a smartphone. Now, the beauty world is one of the newest industries to provide this on-demand-style service.

Glamsquad, a New York-based startup led by former Gilt Groupe co-founder Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, is a service that sends salon-quality stylists and makeup artists, on request, to your door whenever and wherever you may need them. It’s a formula that’s working, as proven by the $7 million in venture capital funding the company recently raised.

A single hour-long service ranges in price from $50 to $95, while a combined hair and makeup appointment will cost between $125 and $180—competitive prices with brick-and-mortar salons, but with the convenience of having a quickly-scheduled appointment done at home.

Using the Glamsquad app or website, customers can request hair and makeup looks from a menu of common styles. For example, choosing “The Weekender” will get you beachy tousled waves, while selecting “The Flirt” will score you a cat-eye and bold lip combination. One can also opt for an updo, a complicated braid, or a makeup application including false lashes; and, of course, Glam- squad’s experienced team can provide more customized looks upon request.

This immense flexibility and the unwavering pursuit of quality make Glamsquad appealing. Each stylist or artist must have at least three to five years of experience, and must also participate in a two-week training program with senior Glamsquad team members—led by creative director Giovanni Vaccaro, a Frédéric Fekkai alum and director of makeup artistry Kelli J. Bartlett, previously with MAC Cosmetics.

“We’re focused on people who really love what they do,” says co-founder and COO David Goldweitz. They bring that joy to our clients.” Plus, while stylists and artists arrive with their own arsenal of battle-tested products, notable Glamsquad partners like Kérastase and Lancôme can be found within their kits as well.

Glamsquad is currently only available in New York, Los Angeles, and Miami, but the company has plans to roll out services to more locations soon.
