A GIRL CALLED FERN

Adolescence is often seen as an in-between state, past the years of complete dependence on one’s parents but not quite at the age when one is fully oneself. For this original feature, photographer Mark Kean and stylist Anna Pesonen capture the model Fern Bainsmith, still living at home in the small town of Gosport on the English coast with her parents and younger sister Kiri, as she reaches the point when she just starts to explore whom she might become. Kean finds the contradictions between the innocent girl Bainsmith remains during her personal moments and the strong woman she turns into when she faces the world.
