LAST LOVES DAVID BOWIE

Everyone has their favorite David Bowie. Whether it’s the iconic lighting-bolt cover of Aladdin Sane or the angular melancholy of the Thin White Duke, or any of his other myriad incarnations, it seems that, after an eclectic, five-decade-long career, everyone has been influenced by him in some way or another. Depending on when you discovered him or how he came into your life, there is a song or character that speaks to you and that you can identify with. Your Bowie wasn’t a choice, it just happened.

To see how our friends and collaborators celebrated the iconic English figure, we searched through their memorials and tributes on social media. With an attempt to capture how he truly inspired us all, we have compiled them here.

“I met David Bowie three times at the New Museum. He wore suburban drag in an attempt to be low key. But once, I clocked him from across the street before he even set foot inside. I printed free tickets and handed them to him while he stood in line and he looked surprised and a little disappointed his cover was blown. But there really was no hiding his energy. His eyes. You can't just stick a tweed hat on that and make it go away. My David Bowie story couldn't be more unremarkable, but he was so remarkable himself, that he made everything around him seem temporarily special. I'm glad I got to feel a tiny little bit of that special.”—Rick Herron, Senior Manager of Visitor Services (@trrricky). RIP David Bowie, 1947-2016.
