SAMBO CREEK
There’s something about the height of summer—maybe it’s the symbolism behind the season, the fervent abundance of new life and rediscovered hope, or very possibly it’s the mind-numbing heat and asphyxiating burden of wading through molasses-like humidity to conquer the morning commute. Whatever it is, something about this godforsaken season makes us crave novelty and beg to be refreshed.
Photographer Evan Browning and Honduras-born stylist Roberto Johnson provide just that in our latest online fashion feature, combining the familiar faces and traditional Garifuna garb of Johnson’s hometown with international designers whose names carry little gravity in the small village on the Caribbean coast but look perfectly at home amongst the tropical fauna. Billowy neutrals and vibrant colors by Alexander Wang, Eckhaus Latta, and Altuzarra mix with the vivid prints and patterns of local attire in a brilliant combination, offering a sense of surprise in the middle of a sweltering season.
