TICTAIL MARKET

Although Tictail is only a few years old, walking into Tictail Market offers the sense that the company has had decades to perfect the curated experience of shopping for products from all over the world. The Lower East Side is now home to the online platform’s first permanent retail location, featuring dozens of independent brands. “We have over a hundred thousand brands across 140 countries on Tictail,” explains Carl Waldekranz, Tictail’s cofounder and CEO. “As such, we want to use Tictail Market to show the breadth, quality, and eclectic offerings of all of the brands within the Tictail community. Walking into the store, you’ll find ceramics from Malta, necklaces from Istanbul, and blazers from Stockholm.”

Tictail is paving a new path for e-commerce that seeks to blend brick-and-mortar with an online marketplace. “We’ve focused on our most popular online categories—fashion and home interior—with a fair amount of jewelry, accessories, and art as well. All items are high quality in make and have an incredible entrepreneurial story behind them,” says Waldekranz. A section of the store is filled with takeaway cards detailing the backgrounds of all the brands in the space. As the selection in the shop changes every month, the bio cards are updated to highlight the stories of the entrepreneurs on display. Waldekranz compares the shop to an “art gallery, with a constantly changing selection of amazing Tictail products.”

As for the future, the company has already tested pop-up shops in multiple cities around the world. “Currently, we’re experimenting with a permanent store here in New York City,” says Waldekranz. “Who’s to say that we won’t explore having multiple Tictail Markets around the world in the future? New York will be an exciting market to test in, and to observe shopping behavior and local interest right here in our backyard.”

Tictail Market is now open at 90 Orchard Street, New York.
