BEST OF MILAN MEN'S SPRING 2014

There was a certain lightness, in both hue and form, to the men’s Spring 2014 collections out of Milan, as can be seen in The Last Magazine fashion director Alastair McKimm’s top five looks. Italo Zucchelli celebrated ten years at Calvin Klein by taking inspiration from the sea and sun at Fire Island, working soft blues and bright sunset pinks into his forward-thinking take on intellectual sportswear. Gucci put a similar spin on its athletic pieces, working with technical fabrics and rich floral prints that were a successful departure from Frida Giannini’s usual rock aesthetic. Jil Sander offered a looser silhouette in soft whites and highlighter orange, with a youthful attitude that felt fresh and invigorating. The suits at Ermenegildo Zegna were clean and crisp, with a maturity that avoided any hints of stuffiness. Over at Bottega Veneta, Tomas Maier added an artistic flourish, with brushstrokes and scribbles sprawling across his luxe looks, summing up the new energy that has vibrated into Italy’s sartorial traditions.
