CLARA AND TRACY’S ROAD TRIP

The news out of Palm Springs the past few weeks has been all about Coachella, but that’s not all the desert town has to offer. Photographer-slash-musician Clara Balzary shows us the city’s softer side in these pictures she sent us from her recent road trip with her best friend, filmmaker Tracy Antonopoulos. Read about her whirlwind tour below.

It was the day after the birthday of one of my best, best friends, Tracy Antonopoulos, and after a few too many cans of Sofia the night before, we thought a little trip out to the desert would do us good. Tracy is one of my best travel partners; we went to Japan last summer and had one of the best times of my life. I’ve recently moved from NY to LA, and thought a visit from Tracy could be better spent adventuring around the weird towns near Palm Springs, rather than Beverly Hills.

Palm Springs is definitely weird. We tried to recreate the video for the Spice Girls’ “Say You’ll Be There” on a barren little road, paid a visit to the Palm Springs Air Museum, and had a mini rage blackout when we found out that all of the In-N-Outs were closed that Sunday.

I tried to take a picture of Tracy sitting on top of a beat-up old pick-up truck one night, until we freaked ourselves out and ran away screaming in the pitch-black darkness. I got some pretty cool ones of her playing air-guitar on a highway-side hilltop though. It’s safe to say the trip was a success, and I can’t wait until our next honeymoon!
