THE LAST PEOPLE – ILLUMINATI AMSTERDAM

Ever since we began back in 2008, we have worked with photographer David Mushegain every issue to bring you a collection of some of the raddest people from all around the world. David shoots and gets to know the young kids he meets on his travels, through his friends, or just walking down the street, and we are always happy to share his discoveries with you. Our weekly postings of David’s Last People continue right here.

Naleye Junior, Nianga Niang, Jaziah, and Demikey make up the DJ collective Illuminati Amsterdam. I was in Amsterdam for a week or so in November and that’s when I met the Illuminati crew. My friend Josh had taken me to a bar late night to meet up with Nianga Niang. She was with her bestie Naleye. Both of them are radical and I was so stoked to meet them. Naleye is kinda the man-around-town in Amsterdam. When I say that I would say he’s probably the coolest cat there for sure. I mean his whole crew is cool but I got to know him the best. Nianga Niang is just hot hot and also cool cool. She’s a rad girl. I met up with them at Nianga Niang’s crib to take a photo the next day and that’s when I met Jaziah. He and Nianga Niang live together with their cute kitty cats. Jaziah produces the tracks. I mean it’s a collaborative effort but I think it’s his fingers that touch the controls. Naleye and Nianga Niang are the faces of the crew. Meaning they are in the videos and photos, etc. I don’t know Demikey. Never met. So we are minus one member in the photo and article but that’s life. So what can I say? They make some awesome tracks. And their videos are awesome too. Let me throw a link at you. One sec. http://vimeo.com/29261818 It’s for a track called “Gung Ho.” It’s badass. Check it out. My opinion these kids are gonna blow up. Amsterdam is such a cool scene. Serious get away from all that stereotypical weed bullshit that the dumbass tourists go there for and get down to the heart of the city and you will see what’s up. We shot this photo on Nianga Niang and Jaziah’s roof in the center of Amsterdam.
