STUDIO VISIT – NOMIA

Nomia designer Yara Flinn welcomed The Last Magazine‘s Zara Zachrisson into her studio a few weeks ago while she prepped for her Fall/Winter 2012 show tonight. The collection, says Flynn, is inspired by the Minimalist artist Dan Flavin, famous for his use of neon light. “While I took note of the literal visual references such as fluorescent hues and stripes of color and long streamlined silhouettes, I also thought more about why his work was so striking to me,” she explains. “The idea that the lights needed to be in a space of darkness to be effective—that is why I chose to juxtapose the colors against ‘drab’ tones such as navy, olive, and black.”

Nomia’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection will be shown tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Box at the Tents at Lincoln Center.
