An exclusive conversation between the decadent Balmain designer and The Last Magazine’s Magnus Berger about his Eighties inspirations, his fascination with Fabergè eggs, and his love of Rihanna.

Today we bring you the second part of New York-based photographer Kava Gorna’s series of quiet moments. Here, she captures the red-headed Varya Shutova in her purest state of comfort, lounging on her bed or with a cup of coffee. “I was just really inspired by little tableaus of what a personal moment is,” Gorna explains, “the things that you do when you are in your underwear, in your home.” Catherine Newell-Hanson styles Shutova with a soft, light touch, just as anyone would want to be dressed before taking on the busy world. The Poland-born, New York-raised photographer Kava Gorna’s images all carry a special intimacy, from her quiet portraits to her series for our Fall 2014 issue, in which she captured three topless women against a searing sunset. Here, she captures the gorgeous Louise Parker in the most private moments of her day, dressed—or undressed—in a state of complete ease. “I was just really inspired by little tableaus of what a personal moment is,” Gorna explains, “the things that you do when you are in your underwear, in your home.” Styled by Catherine Newell-Hanson in clean lingerie, Parker is caught in a state of introspection, lost in thought as she prepares to meet the day. As the models walked through the Centre Pompidou in March at the Acne Studios Fall 2015 show, the obvious eye-catching accessory was the baroque nose ring, studded and bejeweled and weighing heavily on their faces. But designer Jonny Johansson smartly offered a similarly engaging—if more accessible—option as well with his oversized sunglasses, a futuristic, seemingly seamless shield that served up both protection and style. Those glasses—fittingly named Mask—are now available as part of the Swedish brand’s début eyewear collection, along with a broad range of other attractive shapes and sizes for both men and women.

For our Spring 2015 issue, photographer Annemarieke van Drimmelen captures an ethereal Elise Crombez lost in the whipping winds of a sun-bleached shoreline. Dressed in a pale summer wardrobe by Charlotte Collet, Crombez is a glowing vision of the warm days ahead.

Few models are in as constant demand as Hanne Gaby Odiele, the vibrant, blonde Belgian who is muse to countless designers and photographers, as well as a consistent street-style star. She has long been a favorite of The Last family, but the photographer Christian MacDonald captures her and her natural beauty for our pages for the very first time this issue, dressed casually by our fashion editor Zara Zachrisson. This powerful image, part of our ongoing series of fashion spreads, also features another début, with a knit top from JW Anderson’s first collection for Spanish heritage label Loewe, in a celebration of just the kind of reinvention we love to spotlight.

Peter Lindbergh’s Images of Women II is an elegant celebration of female beauty and the German photographer who has been capturing its elusive qualities for several decades. Published by Schirmer/Mosel to commemorate Lindbergh’s seventieth birthday, the Juan Gatti–designed tome features over 320 images that focus on a body of work created between 2005 and 2014.
