THE BARCELONA EDITION KICKS OFF

Last Thursday, Edition Hotels opened a brand-new Barcelona location with a soaring public art performance and late-night house party that took over both the rooftop bar and the basement Cabaret space in a reflection of the many facets of the city’s famed nightlife. The boutique-minded family of properties overseen by Ian Schrager has been on a spree of sorts since first opening alongside New York’s Madison Square Park in 2015, with each hotel emphasizing local culture and flavor in an increasingly homogenized travel scene. Based on the first night, the Edition Barcelona will be no different, commissioning the local urban theater group La Fura dels Baus to perform a choreographed spectacle across the building’s façade, complete with costumes by former Gianfranco Ferré designer Liborio Capizzi and a score by composer Mark Sayfritz. Josephine de La Baume, Chelsea Leyland, Rossy de Palma, Paz Vega, Nathalie Kelly, Mimi Xu, and many others joined Schrager and Edition vice president of brand experience Ben Pundole to inaugurate the socially minded hotel’s numerous entertainment spaces, starting with sunset drinks eleven floors above El Born and ending with DJ sets in the spacious dining and performance space below ground. The variety on hand was much like Barcelona itself, offering something for everyone and always providing the unexpected.
