TLM10: THE LAST PEOPLE - JACK NOVAK

Ever since we began ten issues ago, we have worked with photographer David Mushegain every issue to bring you a collection of some of the raddest people from all around the world. David shoots and gets to know the young kids he meets on his travels, through his friends, or just walking down the street, and we are always happy to share his discoveries with you. Our weekly postings of David’s Last People continue right here.

Jack Novak aka Heartattak. That’s her DJ name and a fitting one I must say. I almost had a heart attack the first time I saw her. I was walking into OHWOW Gallery here in LA for a Terry Richardson opening. There were probably a thou- sand people there. The second I walked in the door the only person I noticed was Jack. She’s so hot and has such an aura. Caught me off guard. I walked directly over to the person standing next to her hoping they knew her and would introduce me. HAHA such a lame move but luckily it worked. We exchanged information. A few days later she came over for a visit and we had an awesome conversation and I thought I had met my soulmate and was going to fall in love. That was until I met her sister Julia and did fall in love. Hahaha. More about that later. (Julia is in this issue too.) Anyway let me describe Jack a little bit. She’s super excited about everything. When I say that I mean she has this crazy energy when she talks about her music or her projects. She’s totally into it and all about it. She has this tough vibe that I love too. Kind of like a Yeah I have been there and seen that shit so don’t try and fuck with me attitude, but in a really sweet way. In other words, Jack knows what she wants to accomplish and she’s set on it and she’s not going to be distracted by lame shit or antics. She’s a strong woman. Her studio is located in her house and that’s where she sits and makes it happen. For the time I have known her she basically comes out of the house to do DJ gigs or exercise and that’s about it. Otherwise she’s at home making dance tracks. And her tracks will make you want to dance. She’s solid at what she does and I think it’s literally a matter of moments before you know exactly what I’m talking about. You will for sure be hearing her tracks in clubs next summer. She just teamed up with Joel Zimmerman, who is the superstar DJ booking agent at William Morris in LA, and I can’t think of a better indicator that Jack’s about to blow up. And well-deserved too. She’s been getting down with electronic music since she was breaking curfew at age twelve and she’s still at it a few years later. Right on. I photographed Miss Heartattak in her studio at home.
