TLM10: THE LAST PEOPLE - JULIA BARNA

Ever since we began ten issues ago, we have worked with photographer David Mushegain every issue to bring you a collection of some of the raddest people from all around the world. David shoots and gets to know the young kids he meets on his travels, through his friends, or just walking down the street, and we are always happy to share his discoveries with you. Our weekly postings of David’s Last People continue right here.

So I was talking to Miss Jack Novak on the phone, asking her if she could please ask her sister to come by for a casting for a job I was working on. I had seen her sister Julia’s photo on her Facebook page. Jack told me, “Yeah but you have to make me a promise.” “What is it?” I asked her. “If I introduce you to my sister you can’t start hanging out with her all the time.” I told her, “Jack don’t even trip. She’s just coming by for a casting.” Then Julia showed up to my house. Wham!!! She’s so gorgeous and beautiful and sweet and chill. I was blown away. I had to totally backtrack on my words to Jack cause there was no way I was going to avoid hanging out with Julia all the time. Anyway that’s how I met Chicago native Julia Barna, who is one of my best friends today. Julia is an awesome musician and an awesome woman. She just started acting and I think that’s her true calling. She is sprinkled across TV land in an array of commercials at the moment. But I think it’s just going to take her walking into the right room before someone goes, WHOA, who is this? and books her for a role in a film. Julia has something very special about her. Very quirky and very intelligent. She is extremely intriguing and whimsical and just a pleasant person to be around. I would not say she is around all the time though. Like she’s not a super on-the-scene girl. She is in some ways a hermit. That was her word that she gave me to describe herself. She writes a lot a lot. Poetry, songs, short stories, etc., etc. She told me her major dream is to do standup comedy. I can actually see that. But I think acting is still where I see her. Anyway she plays the flute super good and she sings beautifully. I photographed Julia at home in Los Feliz. You can follow her on Instagram at @julidonut. PS: She taught me how to use Instagram. But I’m kind of wondering if by the time this article comes out I will even be on it anymore.
