STEIDL X STRAND

Despite several indications to the contrary, we’ve always believed in the residing power of print here at The Last Magazine, so we’re longtime admirers of the work of Gerhard Steidl, the German designer and publisher whose eponymous imprint has brought us beautiful tomes about photography and art from everyone from Karl Lagerfeld and Juergen Teller to Ed Ruscha and William Eggleston—and printed our first four issues. He comes to New York this week for a takeover of the Strand Book Store, with a series of talks and signings with some of the label’s most storied photographers, including Arthur Elgort, Joel Sternfeld, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, and Roni Horn. Steidl himself takes the stage Thursday evening for a talk arguing that “Print Is Not Dead,” but we think the books he makes are proof enough of that.
