THE LAST PLAYLIST: LASTLIGHT'S BRENN & CÉSAR

As summer reaches its midway point, a new music and arts festival is set to to celebrate the season’s long evenings with a full night of performances and DJ sets. Curated by resident DJ’s Brenn & César, L A S T L I G H T comes to Brooklyn’s Output rooftop next week with a live set from local band Color War and an installation honoring the fading daylight. In anticipation of the inaugural festivities, Brenn & César have offered up an exclusive Last Playlist of some of their favorite tracks for the hot days and sweaty nights ahead.

L A S T L I G H T takes place July 28 at Output, 74 Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn. Tickets can be purchased here.

We’re excited to share with you some music that we love. This selection is made of various tracks that have either inspired us since the very beginning or that we listen to and play at the moment. Please do not forget to play these links in full quality and to purchase your music responsibly. Enjoy!

KOLLEKTIV TURMSTRASSE’S “LAST CALL”
This Berlin-based trio has been one of our biggest influences. Their approach is unique in our opinion as they mix perfectly this raw tribal groove to brilliant chords and buttery basslines. If you have no idea who these guys are, also check “Tristesse.”

MIKE DEHNERT’S “DETROIT SWITCH BACK TO CITY”
We play it and listen to it ever since this gem from Mike Dehnert came out. Plus the video is amazing.

BONOBO’S “FIRST FIRES (MAYA JANE COLES REMIX)”
Slow jam, yet super deep. This is what we’ve been digging and working on lately. Maybe maturity. And Bonobo + MJC cannot go wrong.

BODHI’S “HAUTE”
This is some summer groovy house music for you. Personal favorite at the moment. You would think this had been produced in the Nineties, but play it on a some proper sound system to discover this precise and perfectly balanced mix.

COLOR WAR’S “SHAPESHIFTING”
This Brooklyn-based trio is making this unique electro-retro-pop that we can’t get enough of. You have to watch a couple of their videos to quickly dive into their universe. We are proud to have collaborated with them on this very same EP by remixing their track “Hallways.” We’re even prouder to have them at our opening party on the Output rooftop on July 28, as they will show us some of their last productions live for sunset.

COLOR WAR’S “HALLWAYS (BRENN & CÉSAR REMIX)”
This song “Hallways” sounded so great already as it was. This is why we wanted by any means to sound as different as possible from the original. Changing the atmosphere for this heavy bass and delayed guitar sounding lead. Funny story is this track was supposed to sound very tech-house, full of groove on hats and snares, but halfway through mixing with our sound engineer and longtime friend Lionel Elsound, he mutes all our high hats and cymbal kits. This triggered something and we decided to go further this way. (Available for free download here.)

SYNAPSON’S “ALL IN YOU (ROMBO REMIX)”
Romain “Rombo” Hainaut is a young French artist based in Montreal we shared a lot of great moments with. He makes this Ghetto House leaning towards that Canadian trap music. He is full of talent, and forming another brilliant duo called Haute.

HAUTE’S “AROMA”
This is in our telephones at the moment. Romain is killing the beat on this one, and Anna makes you sweat from the first verse. Haute, you guys better keep on a eye on them.

BRENN & CÉSAR’S “BVLGARI”
This is the first track we released, thanks to Product London Records, who allowed us to work with artists like Oliver Schories, Rafaël Murillo, and G.Pal on this record. We also produced and directed this video thanks to our very first round of fans back in 2014 with joint help from our agency Diez Music. We cannot thank enough all the people who made this possible.

MARC HOULE’S “BUSINESS (M.A.N.D.Y. REMIX)”
This one does not come in before two AM. A real dancefloor killer. Drums and bassline keep rolling in and out of this deconstructed tech house remix.

MISSY ELLIOTT’S “SHE’S A BITCH (UN*DEUX REMIX)”
This stands among what the Parisian scene has best to offer. UN*DEUX, talented DJ/producer, not afraid to switch from hip hop to raw house music in the middle of his set. (Available for free download here.)

AUDIOFLY’S “LOVE IS A DRUG”
“Oh it burns deep inside my soul, no I can’t let it go…” We have been playing this track for more than six years now. After hours drifting/lovemaking tune.

BOOKA SHADE’S “NEON GODS (RODRIGUEZ JR. REMIX)”
Rodriguez is probably one OF the most respected French house music producerS. His live sets are absolutely life-changing and he has this sense for perfect music. Every time. He has continuously been one of our biggest sources of inspiration, and we could not find another track to finish this playlist on.
