CONTRIX AND EVA CHEUK

Ever since we began back in 2008, we have worked with photographer David Mushegain every issue to bring you a collection of some of the raddest people from all around the world. David shoots and gets to know the young kids he meets on his travels, through his friends, or just walking down the street, and we are always happy to share his discoveries with you. Our weekly postings of David’s Last People continue right here.

I first saw Conor Doughty aka CONTRIK perform at a little musical evening in the Old Vic tunnels in London. He got up and did some beatbox that seriously blew my mind to pieces. This kid is radical. He’s a street performer from London and he kills it harder than any beatboxer I have ever heard in my life. I first met his girlfriend Eva Cheuk when she showed up with him to our Paris artist apartment for the summer. Contrix did a couple of performances at colette. One to open my photo show and two to open for Kreayshawn’s show. Eva and Conor are the coolest couple. They’re kind of like an old married couple in a way. Arguing and then loving etc etc. Was fun to watch. Actually we went on a trip to Amsterdam along with Charlotte Free and her boyfriend Mitch. Watching those two couples interact was hilarious. Especially in Amsterdam. So classic. Conor got up and did a little street performing. Banking about fifty euros in about twenty minutes. He’s a good act. He’s also insane at parkour. If you check out YouTube and look up Contrix you can see some vids of him doing parkour and beatboxing. It’s radical. Eva herself is a little character and a half too. She’s awesome to photograph. So so cool. I don’t know, the two of them just strike a special chord in my heart. I love them. I can say a lot about them but you get the idea. We shot this photo in Dam Square in Amsterdam right after Conor performed.
