STUDIO VISIT – ZANA BAYNE

The former conceptual artist Zana Bayne is known for her leather harnesses and accessories, all of which she makes by hand in her Brooklyn studio. Bayne invited The Last Magazine‘s Zara Zachrisson over as she prepared for her recent Fall/Winter 2012 presentation during New York Fashion Week. “For Fall/Winter 2012 I embraced my love of Día de los Muertos iconography as well as the incredible Sedlec Ossuary in the Czech Republic,” she says. The self-trained designer is also currently excited about her ongoing collaboration with Prabal Gurung, which is now appearing in stores for the first time for Spring. As for her personal creations, Bayne explains, “Riding the subway is a great source of inspiration—I love to see the way that strangers clothe themselves, the certain choices that people make in regards to hardware, accessories, etc., even if they’re dressed horribly!”
